The Walking the Brecon Beacons (WTBB) group was established in 2016 by Dai Powell as he noticed there wasn't a Facebook Group for this National Park although there were for other Parks in the UK. The group quickly grew in members and, after the first group walk, it was clear it was much needed to help people get active and help with their mental health. It soon became a community for members to share routes, and beautiful photos and to ask for advice.

Dai had the support of a great admin team as the group continued to grow and was featured on ITV Coast & Country and has continued to thrive and grow to over 20,000 members.
Due to Covid, the group (as with many others) became stale and some admin had left due to personal or health issues. I had been a member of the group for some time and shared some of my routes and often asked for advice or responded to any member posts I could help with. Dai contacted me and asked if I would become an admin for the group and help him to get the group going again.

Dai was aware that I have many years of experience in business, a love for the outdoors and that I had set up Sole Sisters which had been an award-winning community group but had disbanded due to Covid.

Over the past year, I have had the honour and pleasure of attending or supporting several events, including The Gurkhas Peak Challenge, Big Black Mountain Challenge, Matthew Maynard’s Wellyman Walking Challenge and Beat The Beacons Mountain Challenge. During this time, I have met some inspirational people and made some great friends.

We also supported the fundraising for the Brecon Mountain Rescue's much-needed new headquarters and met their Ambassador Kate Humble.

With some great teamwork and supportive members, we have now reached over 29,000 members on Facebook, and also have a growing community on Instagram with over 3,000 followers. With the help and guidance of George Thompson, we now have a new website with lots of helpful information for those not on social media. The website also has a business directory with a plan to support all four Mountain Rescue Teams operating in the Brecon Beacons with fundraising. We have some exciting plans for the group including some inspiring collaborations and giveaways and look forward to welcoming new members from all backgrounds and all areas within the UK and beyond. We have members and followers from many countries.
A few words from the founder of the group
"I run Walking The Brecon Beacons which I started in 2016.
Following covid the group had become stale and was slowly dying a death.
In 2021 I asked Janine to become admin for our Facebook group. In a year she turned the group around and it’s now back to one of the best groups on Facebook and Instagram.
With no doubt was the best thing I did for myself and the group.
Great person, great friend."
