Gut and Skin Health

Your skin health is directly related to your gut health .............

Histamine - 80% of the histamine in our body is produced in the gut from the foods we eat and the pathogens living in our bodies. Histamine triggers the inflammatory immune response which leads to inflammation in the skin such as psoriasis, eczema, hives and acne.

Nutrient deficiencies - when we have an inflamed gut and lack of enzymes, we do not absorb the nutrients from our food, especially minerals. This causes us to be nutritionally deficient which directly affects our skin, causing it to get dry, cracked, dull and inflamed.

Dehydration - Our body loses a lot of fluid when it is trying to push toxins out of the colon (via urine and stool). If we have IBS-D, we are losing even more fluids! As we become dehydrated, so do our skins cells, again causing dryness and itching in the skin.

Hormonal Imbalance - Estrogen in the colon can get re-released back into the blood stream if we have sluggish bowels and can cause major hormonal imbalances. Hormonal imbalances cause a host of issues, such as acne, rosacea, melasma and other skin conditions.

Food sensitivities - When we have a leaky gut, we form food sensitivities which lead directly to skin inflammation as we get an elevation if inflammatory immune markers and antibodies. If you have autoimmune, this will cause tissue destruction to occur.

And much more - There are many more ways and reasons that poor gut health causes direct inflammation in the skin but hopefully you get the idea with these few examples. Having good gut health is CRUCIAL and NECESSARY to improve skin conditions!

I was diagnosed with psoriasis twenty-five years ago and have lived clear of psoriasis for over seven years since improving my gut health after being on a rollercoaster for eighteen long years. The other issues that came with psoriasis including dry inflamed skin, nutrient deficiencies, melasma, food sensitivities and auto immune have all subsided along with the debilitating psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Improving my gut health was never suggested to me by my GP, Dermatology or other specialists I had seen over the many years. I had tried many and treatments during that time, but none worked and was left with anxiety, depression and became overweight which did not help my joint issues. I was desperate and at my worst and a course of Methotrexate (a chemotherapy agent and immunosuppressant) was suggested to me by dermatology. Initially I was reluctant after reading the side effects but decided my quality of life wasn't good, I would go ahead. It failed to work, I suffered migraines and was left with thin hair and red patches of dry skin.

Following this awful experience, I stumbled across a product that improved my gut health and changed my life by helping all of my issues and now live a happy, healthy and active life and medication free.

I only wish I had been made aware of the benefits of good gut health many years before!
