Before lockdown, I had tried a few SUP sessions and despite not being very good or confident I had really enjoyed them and found being on the water a great way to exercise but also found it relaxing.
Due to restrictions in lockdown and wanting to remain physically active I pounded the roads running a bit too much and aggravated psoriatic arthritis in my knee and started running less and more off-road in the hope that it would improve.
When restrictions were lifted I decided to invest in a paddleboard of my own and did some research and read many reviews, I was impressed with Bluefin and ordered my board.
I wasn't very good or confident and spent more time on my knees than I did standing at first. I booked some lessons where I quickly learnt safety, skills and my confidence improved, I was standing more than sitting and my knee issues improved. Highly recommend investing in some taster sessions and lessons for safety reasons. I was advised to always check the wind speed before planning or heading out on the water. Other tips were to dress for the water and not the weather and to use a quick-release belt to attach a leash to my waist instead of my ankle.

Paddle boarding is one of the fastest-growing sports and I enjoy that you can go as easy or hard as you feel like with a session. I have visited some lovely canals, rivers, beaches and coves and have seen many beautiful views and spotted some dolphins in Cardigan Bay. Time spent on the water in nature supports my well-being.
